60s/Lana Del Rey Inspired

2/24/2014

Hey everyone,

Over the last couple days, I have been watching a lot of tutorials and at images of retro makeup/fashion and was inspired to play with my makeup a bit. I kind of took the intense eyeliner and combined it with a shadow style that I've seen on a recreated Lana Del Rey look. Obviously this isn't an exact recreation, I kind of just winged it (ha-ha, get it?). It was definitely fun to do.

It's been super snowy here the last few days (something you don't usually see in the Greater Vancouver area) so I haven't been going out or wearing makeup and I was beginning to crave the fun of applying makeup.

So, I'm not much of a non-smiler in photos because I don't think it suits me; however, I just found that with this look, the broody look just suits it so much better than a teeth-showing smile. I threw in a half-smiling photo at the end there just for you guys to see. And excuse my messy hair. I only did my makeup. This is just what my hair looks like naturally.

As promised I actually remembered to make a list of the products I used this time and they were:

Face:
- CoverGirls CG Smoothers foundation (natural beige)
- Makeup Forever Full Cover concealer (5)
- Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch concealer (nude)
- CARGO contour palette (malibu) - bronzer and highlight
- Tarte 12Hr Amazonian Clay blush (thankful)
- Brows: NYX mysterious brown eyes palette (the matte dark brown)
Oh, and I would have also set it with a powder along my T-zone. I just forgot. Oops.

Eyes:
I used colours from my UD Naked and Naked 3. I'll use the abbreviations UD1 and UD3, respectively.
- Lid: UD3 strange (covered up all the way up to my brow bone), UD1 Naked, UD3 limit
- Crease: UD3 nooner mixed with UD1 buck
- L'Oreal lacquer liner 24HR (blackest black)
- L'Oreal Lashout Butterfly mascara (blackest black)
I think that adding a pair of falsies to this look would totally bring the look up a whole 'nother level, but I thought that'd be too much since I'm just sitting at home all day. Plus, they'd just get in the way when I put on my glasses.

Lips:
- Revlon lipstick (Soft Nude)
Ideally, I would've liked to have lined my lips first, but I literally own one lip liner and it's in a bright red, haha. I also don't typically like nude lips of me either just because I think that it washes me out. But, once again, the nude lip just seemed to suit this look way better. That or a pale pink would've sufficed too.

And just for fun, here's a photo booth picture of me in my Snuggie! Hope you enjoyed this post!

Okay, bye!

- Jen
